Coilovers vs Spring kits
Anyone care to explain to me the difference? I mean i know coilovers can go lower but are they really that much better for handling? Or is it rumours?
Re: Coilovers vs Spring kits
They are. they have much better dampening control over regular mcpherson struts. The steering feel is very different too. different spring rates are alot easier to source too.
Camber is adjustable with most kits, and for optimum setup corner weighting is able to be achieved, this is done (roughly) by adjusting the height of each spring to achieve more weight over the opposite side.
they're also very compact, allowing for wider wheels...

don't it depend on the quality of the coilies tho as shite ones are obv crap for the car...imo good quality spring kits (e.g FK Spring kits for the coupe) would be much better for the car and just in general compared to cheap and tacky coilovers. yer u can adjust loads of things but the car will only handle as good as the quality of the legs that it sits on...so imo it depends on what u buy

Re: Coilovers vs Spring kits
yes and no.
Coil overs when set up correctly will usually be better than standard.(depending how bad standard is) when i say set up correctly, this may mean change of spring rates etc, so it all depends on how YOU want it to handle. spring kits will never handle aswell as a well set up coil over. purely because your trying to work the standard damper too much(already too much compression, so you've already lost some travel) for it to be able to compete with coil overs. Yes, a poor quality coilover kit, can be worse than a spring kit, but, this is all so down how it is set up, it may even be so poorly valved from the factory, that a spring change just wont improve it enough.

Re: Coilovers vs Spring kits
yes but lets be honest....how many people who have coilovers for street use actually bother to set them up properly to handle the way they want them to...most people just care about how low u can go....what u have described above is to most people oblivious as they wudnt know sh1t bout how to set them up properly...therefore if u dunt know what ur doing and all u want to do is lower ur car....spring kits inc shocks are best...but forr hardcore mechs like u then obv coilies are better as u can setup the car to exactly how u want it by way of camber adjustments, ride height for front and back, spring rates etc..
tbh unless ur totally fokin insane u wont get near the kinda level u need to be to truly test the handling performance of ur car on normal roads....i say coilies are for track use while spring kits inc shockers are for road use. but each to their own eh lol...
im not trying to be a p**** to u dan or anyone else but if the car will spend the majority of its time on the road i.e more than 80% then coilovers are only good for stance...handling wise theres not much point. my car looked the fockin nuts on a 60mm drop on FK spring n shock kit...handled extremely well for road use aswel but for the track its not much good i wud say as like u have mentioned u cant adjust ride height or camber etc..
